TurboTax saves you time by collecting your information and completing the various lengthy forms you need to file for your business. It also enables you to view your prior-year tax returns, though the method of access differs depending on the version of TurboTax you used. For example, if you have the TurboTax software, your prior-year return was saved to your computer. If you used the online version of the software, you can find your return on the TurboTax website.
TurboTax CD or Download Software
1.Click the Start button, then type '.tax2011' in the search field. Replace 2011 with the desired year. For example, enter '2009' if you want to see your return from 2009.
2.Right-click the file, then click 'Open file location' or 'Open folder location.' Note the location of your return.
3.Launch TurboTax for the year of the return you want to view. For example, you need TurboTax 2009 to open your 2009 return. If you don't have the right version, you must convert it to a PDF to view it.
4.Click 'File' in TurboTax, then click 'Open.' Browse to the location of your tax return, then double-click it to view it.
Convert Your Return to a PDF
1.Go to the TurboTax Tax2PDF webpage (see Resources), then click 'Browse.'
2.Double-click the tax return file you want to view, or click the file once and select 'Open.'
3.Click 'Submit' and wait for Tax2PDF to convert the file to a PDF. When the process completes, TurboTax offers you the ConvertedTaxFile.pdf for download.
4.Click 'Save,' then choose your desktop as the download destination.
5.Double-click 'CovertedTaxFile.pdf' on your desktop to view the file using your PDF reader.
TurboTax online, free Edition, Prior Year
1.Go to the TurboTax 'Access Your 2010 or Earlier Free Edition Return' Web page (link in Resources).
2.Enter your TurboTax username and password, then click 'Log In.' TurboTax displays your return from the prior year only. If you need to view earlier returns, you'll need to request them from the IRS (see Resources).
3.Click 'Save,' then save the return file to your desktop.
4.Click on '2010 TurboTax for Windows Software' on the TurboTax page, then click 'Save.'
5.Save the TurboTax software to your desktop, then double-click it to install it on the computer. Double-click TurboTax to launch it when installation completes. Don't open your return first; this may cause undesirable results.
6.Click 'File' and 'Open,' then select your 2010 return to view it.
TurboTax Online, All Other Editions
1.Go to the TurboTax sign-in page and enter your username and password. Click 'Sign In.'
2.Click 'Continue' to accept the license agreement, then select the version of TurboTax you want to use to view your return, such as 'Deluxe.' Do not choose Free Edition. If you select this version, you won't be able to view your return.
3.Click 'View your returns from prior years' on the Welcome Back screen. If you don't see this link, click 'Tools' and 'View Past Returns.'

4.Select the return you want to view and wait for it to open as a PDF file.

Tips
- You can view prior-year returns by contacting the IRS for a free transcript or an exact copy. The IRS charges $57 per copy of your tax return at the time of publication. Call (800) 908-9946 to request your transcript, or order one online (see Resources). For an exact copy of your return, fill out the Request for Copy of Tax Return PDF form (see Resources). Mail your request to the address indicated on the form. The address differs based on your state.
- TurboTax only allows you to view your 2010 Free Edition return until mid-October of 2012. After that time, you'll need to request a copy from the IRS.
