Dec 18, 2017 Saints Row 2 is an open world action-adventure game which is available in ISO and PKG format with update DLC CFW/OFW 4.81/4.82. This game was developed by Volition and published by THQ. Saints Row 2 PS3 game was released on October 14, 2008.
Every week, Volition hosts a stream where they talk all things relating to game development, including discussion about their flagship series, Saints Row. Last week, they talked about a canceled Saints Row title on PSP called Saints Row: Undercover.
This week? They’ve actually released the game out into the wild. Well, it’s less “releasing a game” than “letting their deformed, mutant offspring roam free,” but it’s something, and it’s kind of cool.
Saints Row: Undercover was originally supposed to be a direct port of Saints Row 2. But when it became clear that was logistically impossible, they decided to just make an entirely new game instead, and so Saints Row: Undercover was born.
The game wasn’t even developed by Volition, and many employees had never even heard of it when it was accidentally dug up by one of their video editors. Further research showed that an outside studio had been brought in to make the game since Volition wasn’t a handheld developer, but THQ, Volition’s publisher at the time which has since been dismantled, deemed the game too bad to live, and so it was killed.
This week, after streaming some gameplay from the remnants of the game, Volition actually uploaded everything they had from it in the form of an .ISO file hosted on Unseen64 for “preservation,” which means you can actually now download it yourself.
I’m not going to start encouraging the use of probably-illegal emulators, but if one did want to play the game, one could do so by downloading one and utilizing the file provided.

It’s probably not worth it to do that, considering just how much of a pre-pre-alpha shell this game is, but it’s kind of fun to see gameplay all the same. Here’s some from someone who went the emulator route:
It’s…mildly terrifying, especially that car crash at the end. This is clearly a ridiculously early build, but it’s also pretty easy to see how a full port of Saints Row 2 for PSP probably wasn’t going to go so well. It’s probably good this never saw the light of day because yes, this definitely would have tarnished the brand to some extent. Though THQ going under didn’t exactly do wonders for the betterment of the series, in my opinion.
I am, however, absolutely dying to see a new-gen Saints Row title from Volition. Though nothing has been officially announced, I’m guessing one is definitely in the works. Saints Row IV was remastered for PS4 and Xbox One, but Volition’s engine from Saints Row the Third is in dire need of an update, and there’s no way Saints Row 5 should use it.
I have a zillion thoughts about the possibilities of Saints Row 5 or 5aints Row or whatever they end up calling it, but I’ll save those for another time. For now, enjoy the horrible, oddly endearing absurdity of Saints Row: Undercover, and play it for yourself if you’re really daring.
BONUS: And as you may recall, this isn't even the first cancelled
