And that sounds peculiar. At least some of it IS there, as you pointed out for the sr7008 and sr7010. And the Auro update is available for the sr7010 too. Only the sr7009 is missing, and I suspect that's simply a mistake (which no one really cares about fixing). Also, any Auro up_grade_ downloads (different from the up_dates_ we're discussing) are generated uniquely for each AVR, so getting your hands on somebody else's wouldn't do you much good. I just did my first Audy setup and I generally enjoy the overall movie sound on Reference mode with the exception of dialogue. At times, the high ends of the some of the actors voices sound a little harsh.
I like all other sounds so is my best bet copying the 'Audy Curve' to the manual Graphic Equalizer and lowering the settings on center channel speaker only?
I am using a Maranatz SR7009 with 9.1 sound.

Note that only the 'Flat' curve can be copied and only a crude representation of it at that (ie. actual Audyssey is disabled); however, certainly no harm in trying.I like all other sounds so is my best bet copying the 'Audy Curve' to the manual Graphic Equalizer and lowering the settings on center channel speaker only?

Ensure your center speaker is pulled out to the edge of the cabinet and angled up towards your head (if possible). You may also want to try running Audyssey setup a few times varying the mic position grouping each time (although having a rough idea of what the different positioning is each time) as this can impact the effect of the actual EQ. Some find a tighter grouping (ie. all within no more than 1' radius around the 1st mic position) to be most effective.

Hi guys. Quick question.... when/after listening to stereo music using Pure Direct, is it necessary to touch anything when playing a movie? Does the SR7009 go automatically to the 'regular' surround mode?
I'm asking this because whenever I play a movie file (after listening to stereo music with Pure Direct) my Marantz 7009 seems to stay on Pure Direct, with the big red light still ON.

I'm hoping maybe I can get some help with a few questions.
1. I have an OPPO UDP-203, both my tv and the Marantz receiver are not UHD or 2.2 compliant but are 4K.
Can I still hookup the hdmi straight from the OPPO to the Marantz and would I even bother with 4K Blurays at this point(not sure if the would play) or just use standard Blurays?
2. I was searching for a tips & tricks or any form of setup guide for the SR7009. Is there just the Audyssey guide or is there anything else pertaining to the features of this unit?
3. Being as it's 4 years old is it time to just sell it and upgrade? Both my fronts and 2 subwoofers run off their own external amps and it looks like pre outs are becoming more rare these days except for the higher priced options. Don't care much for Atmos.

1. Nope. No 4k through the AVR or likely to the TV as well if not HDCP 2.2, although you could try and if it works, pass the video straight to the TV while passing audio only to the AVR (as the Oppo 203 has two HDMI outputs for this purpose).1. Hi,
My 3.5 yrs old 7009 keeps going into Protection mode. Upon checking the protection history display mode, it showed 'DC' meaning 'DC output of the power amplifier is abnormal'.
What does this mean? What are my options here?
I bought this from Magnolia. Since I didn't buy any additional warranty they said they can't do anything about this. Do I have to ship this to Marantz service center for repair? Can I get it repaired anywhere else? I live in Santa Clara, CA.
How much would it cost?
Appreciate your inputs.

Although generally costing more in shipping cost, shipping it to the factory repair center at United Radio, Syracuse, NY generally results in the quickest turn around.

Good news my Vizio M70-C3 has 3 HDMI 2.2 ports. 2. Other than running Audyssey, there's not much more to be done, other than placing settings based on personal preference.

I currently have a 7.2 AVR (running 5.1), and I have the opportunity to pick up an SR7009 at a really good price so that I can set up for Atmos 5.1.4, but this AVR is non-HDCP 2.2 compliant.
My question/concern, is that I currently have a 1080p TV, and with most of the Atmos mixes being on 4K BluRay versions, would I be able to pass these through the Marantz since it will be downscaling to 1080p anyway?
I'm hoping that someone might be able to help me in this matter so that I can utilize this AVR for Atmos until I'm ready to fully upgrade to 4K.

Yes and no. The SR7009 will not downscale or even accept 4K blu-ray video. However, most blu-ray players recognise this immediately and send the 1080P version to the avr, and of course the Atmos soundtrack. You just need to check with the blu-ray player you have (or are buying) as to if it does this.
I have the SR7009 and purchased a Panasonic DMP-UB900 ages ago specifically for this purpose. The UB900 sends 1080P output to the avr along with the Atmos soundtrack.

With it plugged in I have video on Bluray(receiver input) but no audio using HDMI5 from the tv.
To get audio I have to switch the tv to input 4 which is going into the hdmiarc on the receiver.
So just for kicks I unplugged the HDMI ARC from the back of the receiver and everything works.
OK typing this I see how stupid I am as I guess 'NOT USING HDMI ARC' applies to both receiver and tv. DUH!!!
Is there a way to get my OSD from the receiver back on the tv?

In order to see the receiver's OSD on a TV, the incoming video has to pass through the receiver on its way to the TV. As a result, you can't view the receiver's OSD if the video you're watching stays in the TV. Its OSD is not visible for OTA transmissions, streaming services provided in the TV or for devices plugged into the TV. Does Multi Channel Stereo music mode only copy left and right channels?
My understanding of Multi Channel Stereo mode was that the AVR simply copies the front left and right channels to the surround left and right channels (and surround back left and right if available), with no audio processing or even a level change. I think some call this 'party' mode, however I noticed that the center channel is active, even with a 2-channel input signal (Pandora via my Roku stick in this case), so it does more than simply copy channels.
Is there a more technical explanation of how Multi Channel Stereo works? I've googled this over the past few days but mostly find highly detailed explanations on the Dolby PLII algorithm by Roger Dressler and sdurani, there is little to no information on Multi Channel Stereo processing.
*note - this screenshot is from my Marantz SR5009, but my SR7009 Multi-Ch-Stereo music mode works just the same.

Thanks, so the front left + right channels are summed to the center channel and the center volume is reduced by 3dB. This is different than Dolby PLII, which extracts the front left and right channel's correlated signal to a hard center, which would have created a phantom center anyway in a stereo only setup. I have the SR7009 and purchased a Panasonic DMP-UB900 ages ago specifically for this purpose. The UB900 sends 1080P output to the avr along with the Atmos soundtrack.

I have a Sony UBP-X800. Not sure if you're familiar with this model, but I'll see what I can find on this feature.
And just to clarify, I was indeed referring to the BR player downscaling to 1080p. It actually has a notification that pops up whenever I play a 4K movie that tells me that my display is not 4K. I don't recall what it says verbatum, but you get the gist.

[EDIT] The Sony has a feature to output 1080p only. Will this be what I need to ensure that it will work with the 7009 and my Sammy 1080p TV?
P.S. I talked to a gentleman at Crutchfield, and he stated that I would not be able to play 4K discs through a Non-HDCP 2.2 compliant ARV....only standard BluRays.
Is it safe to assume that he was inaccurate in his statements?

I guess it depends on the Sony UBP-X800. I am not familiar with it so can't really say if it will or not. My Panasonic has 2 hdmi outputs and it even says in the manual which output to use if not using a 4K AVR. So I am guessing that hdmi isn't HDCP 2.2
The Panasonic also has the notification that pops up about the non 4k display. It still plays them in 1080P with the desired Atmos track.

I'll have to double chack the manuel for non 4K output, but I do have 2 HDMI outputs. Although, HDMI 2 is labled 'Audio Only'. Not sure about the HDMI being HDCP 2.2. That's a good question... [EDIT] The manual does indeed show hookups for non 4K receiver. It has the 'Video/Audio' going to the TV, and the 'Audio Only' going to the AVR. Is this how you have yours hooked up?

You can do it that way for 4K video to the TV and audio only to the AVR. On the panny the audio out hdmi connection can also do both video and audio but not at the same time as using the 4k video out hdmi. This is selectable in the panny's config.
Your Sony manual should tell you what you can achieve with the outputs. Having 2 hdmi outs would suggest what you are trying to achieve is possible.
