I want to leave windows xp on my laptop but be able to open the virtual appliance file. Experts Exchange. Individual Business. How can I open a.ova file? I just found an ovf tool on vmware website and I will download and try that.
You can import an Open Virtualization Format (OVF) virtual machine and run it in VMware Fusion. You can import both .ovf and .ova files.
VMware Fusion converts the virtual machine from OVF format to VMware runtime (.vmx) format.
OVF is a platform-independent, efficient, extensible, and open packaging and distribution format for virtual machines. For example, you can import OVF virtual machines exported from VMware Workstation™ into Fusion. You can import OVF 1.0 and later files only.
You can also use the standalone OVF Tool to convert an OVF virtual machine to VMware runtime format. For information about using the OVF Tool, see the OVF Tool User Guide on the VMware Web site.
Download or copy the OVF virtual machine file (.ovf or .ova file) to a location that is accessible to your Mac.
2 | Browse to the .ovf or .ova file and click Open. |
Type the name for the imported virtual machine in the Save As text box and indicate where to save it. The default destination is the Virtual Machines folder created by VMware Fusion. VMware Fusion displays the disk space needed for the import, and the space available on the current disk. | |
4 | Click Import. Fusion performs OVF specification conformance and virtual hardware compliance checks. A status bar indicates the progress of the import process. |
After the import is complete, the virtual machine appears in the virtual machine library and in a separate virtual machine window. The virtual machine is shut down.
Hello dear all,
This is more like a Windows question but is vmware related. I would really appreciate your help, if you can provide it of course :-)
I have this Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 with Web Server role installed and IIS up and running. I have uploaded one .ova file there, being available through http. (I have created a Virtual Directory, enabled Directory Browsing etc)
The problem is that i cannot download it, or in any case use it to 'Deploy from a URL' when trying to 'Deploy OVF Template'. The error is the usual 404.3 HTTP Error.
I know the problem but i'm a total newbie when it comes to MIME Types and IIS Web Server.
So my question is, which MIME Type should i use/enter to associate it with the .ova (and .ovf) extensions? Even if i add the entry though, do i need to install any vmware product on that server? For example, the .doc extension is associated with the application/msword MIME Type, and the msword corresponds to the Microsoft Office Word application. So, do i have to install a VMware product application in my Windows server to support the MIME Type?
